Lola Phillips is a registered osteopath and senior clinician at Health in Motion Osteopaths.
If you are in pain, feeling unsure about your symptoms, or wondering whether you need treatment, imaging or a referral, an online osteopathy consultation with Lola may be a helpful place to start.
Online consultations are usually available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They can be a useful way to begin your care with Lola at the earliest opportunity, especially if you cannot come into clinic, would prefer not to have hands-on treatment, or need help deciding your next sensible step.
You may feel that something is not quite right and want an experienced osteopath to listen carefully, ask the right questions, and help you make sense of what is happening.
An online consultation gives you time to talk through your symptoms, understand what may be contributing to them, and decide what kind of support may be most appropriate.
This is not a replacement for hands-on treatment when hands-on care is needed. It is a clinical consultation by video, designed to help you feel clearer, safer and more confident about your next step.
An online osteopathy consultation may be helpful if you:
have back, neck, hip, pelvic or joint pain and are unsure what to do next
want help from an osteopath but do not want hands-on treatment
feel too uncomfortable, tired, busy or anxious to attend the clinic in person
have persistent or recurring back pain that has not settled with the usual advice
are wondering whether you need imaging, a GP review or a private specialist opinion
would like support with women’s health-related pain, midlife body changes or persistent symptoms
live too far away to attend the clinic easily
want to start with Lola before deciding whether in-person care is needed
want a clear plan before deciding whether a structured programme is right for you
Many people book because they feel stuck between “wait and see” and “I need answers now.”
If that is where you are, the consultation can help you slow things down, understand the pattern, and choose the next sensible step.
During your online consultation, Lola will take time to understand what has been happening and what you are most worried about.
This may include:
when your symptoms started
what makes them better or worse
what you would like to be able to do again
how they affect your sleep, work, movement and daily life
what treatment, medication, exercise or advice you have already tried
what you are worried about
From your answers, Lola will consider whether there are any signs that may need medical review.
Where appropriate, Lola may ask you to do simple movements on camera so she can observe how your body is moving. This is gentle and adapted to what feels safe and manageable for you.
You do not need any special equipment, and you will not be asked to undress. It can help to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily, such as leggings, joggers, shorts, a T-shirt, vest top or another stretchy top.
You just need a private space, a stable internet connection, and enough room to stand or move a little if we need to look at movement.
a clearer explanation of what may be contributing to your symptoms
advice on whether you may need in-person treatment
simple movement or self-care guidance
simple movement or self-care guidance
guidance on when to seek GP or urgent medical review
advice on whether imaging or specialist review may be worth considering
a written referral letter, where clinically appropriate
a recommendation for a structured pain recovery programme if your pain has become persistent or complex
By the end of the consultation, you should feel clearer about what to prioritise and what your next step may be.
After the appointment, Lola will email you a short written report summarising the key points discussed, the advice given, and any agreed next steps.
Sometimes people know they need more help, but they are not sure how to ask for it.
You may be wondering whether you need an MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, GP review or private specialist opinion. You may also feel unsure how to explain your symptoms clearly.
During the consultation, Lola can help you think through whether further investigation or referral may be appropriate.
Where clinically appropriate, she can provide a clear referral letter to support your next step. This may be helpful if you are seeking a GP review, private imaging or a specialist opinion.
A referral letter is not a guarantee that imaging or specialist care will be offered. It is a clinical summary designed to explain your symptoms, relevant findings and the reason further review may be useful.
If your back pain has been present for months, keeps returning, or feels out of proportion to what you have been told is happening structurally, it can feel frightening and frustrating.
You may have tried treatment, exercises, medication, scans or rest, yet still feel as if your body has not fully recovered.
Here is what may be happening in your body: persistent pain often involves more than muscles, joints and discs. Your nervous system, stress load, sleep, hormones, immune system and fear of movement can all influence how strongly your body protects you.
An online consultation can help you understand whether your pain pattern needs a different kind of approach.
For some people, this may mean simple advice and reassurance.
For others, it may mean a more structured pain recovery plan that helps retrain the brain and body for safer, more confident movement.
If one of Lola’s pain recovery programmes seems more appropriate than a one-off consultation, she will explain that clearly.
Many women notice changes in their body during midlife.
Pain may become more persistent. Joints may feel stiffer. Recovery may feel slower. Symptoms may flare around stress, sleep disruption, hormonal changes, digestive changes or emotional load.
It can feel worrying when your body no longer responds in the way it used to.
An online consultation can give you space to talk through the bigger picture, not just the painful area. This may be helpful if your symptoms feel connected to menopause, pelvic or hip pain, back pain, fatigue, stress, or a general sense that your body is becoming harder to trust.
The aim is to help you understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and what kind of support may be most appropriate.
Some people want clinical help but do not feel comfortable with hands-on treatment.
You may be sensitive to touch, anxious about being examined, unsure about manual treatment, or simply prefer to start with a conversation and a clear plan.
An online consultation can give you space to be heard without pressure.
We can discuss your symptoms, your worries, your movement, your goals and your options. If in-person care would be useful, Lola can talk this through carefully and only as part of a plan that feels appropriate for you.
Online consultations can be very useful, but they are not right for every situation.
Some symptoms need urgent medical attention. Some need a hands-on examination. Some need direct GP, hospital or specialist review.
If your symptoms suggest that online osteopathy is not the right route, Lola will tell you and guide you on what to do next.
This may include contacting your GP, seeking urgent medical advice, booking an in-person assessment, or arranging further investigation through the appropriate route.
Your safety comes first.
